KC Small Businesses Can Craft a Reopening Plan with These Expert Guides, Tips

As states and counties begin to lift stay-at-home orders put in place to stem the spread of coronavirus and COVID-19, small businesses have a lot of questions and concerns, especially since each city, county and state has its own guidelines, rules and dates. We’ve got some guidance.

First off, here’s a few important reopening dates around a few counties in the metro. The dates span from May 4 -15, depending on your city, county and state. Be sure to check with your local and county government because current dates have already changed and others may change; guidance might also vary from location to location.

But a great new resource we heard about is from The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. On its new COVID-19 Workplace Re-entry Plans page, it’s laying the groundwork for some great information.

First up, it’s got info on the official stuff involving KC Area Recovery Plans, which includes directives from the Missouri and Kansas governments.

If you need some inspiration in crafting your back-to-work guidelines, it’s also included a few from the likes of Knoll, Kroger, Lear and others you can use to write a playbook for your own small business to keep your employees safe.

Along with other helpful stuff to check out, like PPE (personal protection equipment) resources for things like hand sanitizer, face masks and other health guidance, the KC Chamber, along with the KC Area Development Council, The Civic Council of Greater Kansas City and the Mid-America Regional Council, have also assembled a great guide that outlines how you can craft a plan for your business to reopen and resume operations safely.

  • Develop fundamentals with your plan to return to work by staying informed, listening to employees and more

  • Strategies for ramping up your operations

  • How to work with your employees and set guidelines to keep them safe

  • Guidelines you can create for your workplace

  • How to handle meetings

  • And much, much more
