In the fifth grade, Emily won the D.A.R.E. essay contest. Since then, she’s written for numerous publications and anthologies you’ve actually heard of and is currently the Senior Commerce Writer at Bon Appétit and Epicurious. Her first essay collection, “I‘ll Just Be Five More Minutes: And Other Tales from My ADHD Brain” (Hachette Books, 2024) was an Amazon Editor’s Pick for best nonfiction when it was published in February and Kirkus Reviews called her “an endearingly spiky new voice.” Before joining Condé Nast full time in 2021, Emily worked as a social media coach and consultant and created content for many local and national brands, including Crows Coffee, Kansas City Canning Co., Good Clean Wine, Food Network, and Nathan’s Famous. Throughout her 20-something-year career, Emily’s writing has been described as “relatable” and “irreverent” and she is well aware she’s not for everybody (in fact, she prefers it that way). These days, she posts sporadically to Instagram @thatemilyfarris and writes an even more sporadic newsletter, Everyday Distractions.
