This class is designed to provide an overview of the alternative capital available to private companies. “Private equity” is often used to describe many different forms of alternative capital including mezzanine or subordinated debt, private equity funds, high net worth family offices and independent or “fundless” sponsors. We will discuss various potential purposes private companies use such capital, including internal growth opportunities, future acquisitions, ownership/management succession planning, management buyouts, diversifying investments, shoring up the financial health of the business, facilitating the buyout of a current partner or the complete sale of the business. Participants will gain an understanding of the various forms of alternative capital available and how they may use alternative capital to accomplish their goals.
