"Read to Succeed"
If you attended the January IndyComm meeting, maybe you picked up a valuable nugget from PR pro Eric Morgenstern of Morningstar Communications. Eric is one of the most engaged – and engaging – PR consultants in the business. His advice? Read. At least one business book a month.
Study any successful person, and you’ll probably find they all share a passion for reading. It’s one of the best ways to stay on top of trends, spark your creativity, grow your understanding of complex problems, and get inspired.
OK, you might ask – “How can I afford to make time for extra reading?” The question is “how can you afford not to?”
For the May 24 IndyComm meeting, let’s collectively challenge ourselves. Pick up, borrow, or download a business book. If you’re really pressed for time, then read an industry article (IABC’s Communication World website is a great place to start cw.iabc.com.)
Bring the book or article to the meeting and come prepared to share the top three take-aways from your selection with fellow IndyComm peers. Let’s all learn, and share the wisdom!
And, if you’re looking for some inspiration, here are some ideas on good reads (Thanks Eric!)
- Dan Pink:
- “A Whole New Mind”
- Malcolm Gladwell:
- “Tipping Point.”
See you at the May meeting!
