We See Sharks! Apply for a ‘Shark Tank’ Casting Call in Kansas City

The best-known startup pitch show on TV is looking for entrepreneurs to apply for a chance to appear during a Friday, Feb. 21 casting call in Kansas City.

“Shark Tank,” the Emmy Award-winning ABC business show that features well-known investors who hear pitches from entrepreneurs seeking funding, wants to attract the KC metro’s diverse entrepreneurs as part of an effort with the city of Kansas City, Missouri; the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City; and OHUB.KC, among others.

Local news outlets Startland News and the Kansas City Business Journal report that OHUB co-founder Rodney Sampson played a big role in getting the casting call to the City of Fountains. OHUB and EDCKC teamed up to form KC.UP, which aims to make access to KC’s tech, startup and venture ecosystem more inclusive.

Entrepreneurs from the Kansas City metro have appeared on the show before. Betsy Johnson, owner of SwimZip, landed a deal on “Shark Tank” a few years ago for her UV 50+ brand of protective swimwear for kids.

If you’re interested in the Feb. 21 opportunity, these guidelines may give you an edge. According to the “Shark Tank” application website for the Kansas City casting call:

“On a first come, first serve basis, companies may be selected to pitch their businesses to the casting team from ABC’s Shark Tank.

“Please note: Shark Tank occasionally features entrepreneurs who have a ‘good idea,’ but the vast majority of entrepreneurs that appear on the show display traction through user acquisition, sales, and/or intellectual property protection. We look forward to seeing you pitch your business.”
