And just in case you need to hear this—you and your business are worth investing in. Take the time now to treat yourself well and set your business up for success.

Time is money and your business needs both, so keep the momentum going for your business and take advantage of these wonderful opportunities in Kansas City:

Scale UP! Kansas City

Many business owners have difficulty transitioning from running their businesses to focusing on growing their businesses. For four months, ScaleUP! Kansas City, a program of the UMKC Innovation Center and offered at no cost to participants thanks to generous support from the Kauffman Foundation, will connect up to 15 business owners with a high caliber curriculum and a transformative network of peers, resources and mentors, all aimed to change the trajectory of their businesses.

In addition to hiring new employees, crushing million-dollar revenue goals and expanding to new markets, recent grads have been accepted to the Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program and four took coveted $50,000 grants at the LaucnKC competition. (Cambrian, Cohort 5, won the grand prize this year of $100,000).

Who can be accepted:

  • Lead a company that has been in business for at least 2 years and have 2 employees
  • Generate annual sales in excess of $150K
  • Have a strong market than can generate more than $1 million in sales
  • Strive to drive your business to greater heights

What you get:

The cornerstones of ScaleUP! Kansas City are FastTrac® Listening to Your Business™ and FastTrac® Growth Venture™, proven energizers for businesses positioned to scale.

Courses are supplemented with Kauffman Founders School, peer-to-peer round tables and “collision” sessions that unite you with subject matter experts.

The most meaningful part of ScaleUP! is the lifelong connections you’ll make with your peer cohort—other entrepreneurs who face the similar challenges as you.

Applications are due by December 6, 2017, here. To date, 92 homegrown Kansas City businesses have entered the program, with results that include facility expansions, new hires, new financing, increased sales and expanded markets. Your turn

Growth Mentoring Service

The Growth Mentoring Service is an Enterprise Center in Johnson County program, modeled after the established and highly recognized MIT VMS mentoring program, which connects experienced entrepreneurs with a team of skilled volunteer mentors.

Who can be accepted:

You are eligible for the Growth Mentoring Service if you are an entrepreneur running an established company with annual revenues in excess of $100,000 or more.

What you get:

Growth Mentoring Service uses a group mentoring approach: a lead mentor coordinates a team of three to four mentors that meet together with the entrepreneur(s) in sessions that provide practical, day-to-day professional advice and coaching.

Entrepreneurs in the Growth Mentoring Service program have had a lot to celebrate recently. A few examples: Karen of DMC Service, Inc. was accepted into the Helzberg Entrepreneurial Mentoring Program and Megan Day, co-owners of the BBQ Addicts was recently featured on the Food Network's "Chopped."

Pipeline Entrepreneurs

Pipeline is a fellowship of high-performing entrepreneurs who call the Midwest home. They have access to a national network of experts who share a passion for the Pipeline family. Pipeline entrepreneurs invest in their own professional development and also give generously of their time, talent and capital so that fellows can build global businesses from wherever they choose.

Who can be accepted:

  • Leadership: Participants must be CEO/president, founder or co-founder of their company.
  • Intellectual property: Entrepreneurs must own, control and/or license any property forming the basis of the fellow’s product or service.
  • Location: Applicants must reside or do business within the partner regional boundaries: the states of Kansas and Nebraska, the Kansas City metropolitan area, St. Louis, as well as entrepreneurs with sufficient affiliation to the University of Missouri-Columbia.

What you get:

Fellows must attend four mandatory modules that combine work on their venture with peer mentoring and network building events. At the end of the year, fellows participate in what many say is “indescribable”—the annual entrepreneurial event called The Innovators, where a national panel of judges will watch pitches, followed by a celebration.

During the Fellowship year, there are also optional events beneficial to building your network, you will have access to experts and other entrepreneurs to address real time issues, and you will build a system of support to last a lifetime.

Applications are due by October 19. It'll be here before you know it so get on it and tell your friends.
