Missouri: Take the Governor's Innovation Task Force Survey

900-Eric Greitens Governor's Innovation Task Force Survey
This is your chance to share your perspective on entrepreneurship and innovation in the state of Missouri and your ideas on how to continually improve the environment for new businesses. Complete the Governor’s Innovation Task Force survey now. (It closes Friday, July 14).

Why? Because entrepreneurship matters--to our dreamers, doers and our local economy.

Here in Kansas City, we know very well what happens when a community coalesces around the mission of nurturing entrepreneurship. In 2011, the Kansas City regional community rallied behind a grand vision, articulated by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce: to make Kansas City America’s most entrepreneurial city.

The power of collaboration was immediately evident and we’ve tracked our progress each year since in the We Create KC report. These are just a few highlights from our most recent report:

  • STARTS: On average, 4,400 KC startups hire their first employee each year. In 2015, 4,679 KC startups hired their first-employees, with those in service/education/administration-related industries ranking highest.

  • CAPITAL: KC funding organizations collectively reported a 290% increase in available capital for early-stage entrepreneurs, for a total of $792 million in capital available to early-stage entrepreneurs.

  • INNOVATION PIPELINE: Whiteboard2Boardroom provides a snapshot of and access to more than 200 next-gen, homegrown technologies, ready entrepreneurial leadership and commercialization.

  • RESOURCES: KCSourceLink is a network of 254 business-building resources and made more than 92,000 connections via hotline, email and website last year to help entrepreneurs and small business owners in our metro region find the assistance they need to start and grow.

Many stakeholders have supported this mission and helped Kansas City progress toward America’s most entrepreneurial city, including the State of Missouri government. We believe strongly that when the Kansas City entrepreneurial ecosystem wins, Missouri wins. And vice versa.

Which is why we were so excited to see that our new governor, Eric Greitens, formed a task force to promote entrepreneurship, innovation and new technology startups in Missouri. The task force is hosting five invite-only roundtables across the state, Kansas City’s was on June 22. Today, they want to hear from you.

Complete the Governor’s Innovation Task Force Survey now to share your perspective on entrepreneurship and innovation in the state of Missouri and your ideas on how to continually improve the environment for new businesses.

Here’s more from Governor Greitens on the Task Force’s focus: “Accelerating the growth of good paying jobs is critical to Missouri’s future. Missouri must find smart, efficient ways to support innovation, entrepreneurs, and new technology startups. While Missouri has emerged as a hub for innovation in the Midwest, more must be done if we are to remain competitive and reach Missouri’s full potential as a national leader. The work of the Governor’s Innovation Task Force will ensure that Missouri’s strategy is informed by the best minds from business, nonprofits, and government.”

This is your chance to tell the State of Missouri how you think your tax dollars should be spent on entrepreneurship and innovation. Take just a couple of minutes to complete the Governor’s Innovation Task Force Survey before Friday, July 14, and let the governor know what entrepreneurship means for you (and the state of Missouri).
