Back to the action, here’s how Resource Navigator Kaitlyn helped Jean Flowers develop her business, S.I.S.T.A.S.

S.I.S.T.A.S. or “Single Individuals Striving Towards Achieving Success” began as a single mothers support group in 2000. Jean’s mission is to be an advocate and a mentor for women when they need it most.

In 2013, Jean put her business on the back burner for a while. When she decided to get it back up and running, she reached out to KCSourceLink. Kaitlyn guided her through the next steps and introduced her to some helpful resources who could help her achieve her mission—including the Women’s Business Center for guidance on her business plan, SCORE for mentorship and additional information on starting a nonprofit in our Learning Center.  

Jean said these resources helped her to build her self-esteem and gave her the strength to hold on to her dream of becoming a successful business woman. Her next step for S.I.S.T.A.S. is to expand her mentorship program for teen girls. Someday, she would like to build a more in-depth transitional housing program, unlike anything she sees on the market today.
