A Little Insight on Pinsight Media
Kevin McGinnis | Kansas City, Mo. | Innovation-Led
Meet Pinsight Media, our innovation-led quad champion for Battle of the Brands 2016. Started in 2012 by Kevin McGinnis, Pinsight Media is elevating Kansas City one app at a time.
Below we asked Pinsight Media about its roots (oh, hi Sprint), its support (precious Resource Partners) and their Kansas City brand crushes.
What does your company do?
We help businesses and brands make data-driven decisions and connect to the right audiences by leveraging first-party data.
How did you get started?
Pinsight was officially founded in 2012 as part of Sprint’s new ventures group. In 2013, Sprint acquired Handmark and its subsidiary OneLouder to expand Pinsight’s mobile media and app publisher businesses to become a standalone company.
How did you overcome your biggest challenge?
We’ve attacked a crowded and highly-competitive market by accumulating an amazing team of talented, spirited people. We think exponentially, focusing on being the best at what we do.
Who helped you?
Regionally, we have a lot friends in the startup community, such as the Sprint Accelerator, Pipeline Entrepreneurs, 1 Million Cups, KCnext, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and more.
What’s your best advice for a startup?
Focus on your customers.
What makes Kansas City a great place to start and grow a business?
The city’s investment in education and entrepreneurship is key. There’s a huge civic-corporate-startup effort to support and fuel the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s movement to make Kansas City America’s most entrepreneurial city.
What are some of your favorite buzz-worthy Kansas City brands? Who gets it?
Our friends at Shottracker and The Nerdery are great innovation brands. But how can we not call out the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and Sporting KC as some of our all-time favs?
