Tippin’s Pies: "Why We Battle"
As we enter Round 3 of Battle of the Brands, we sat down with Tippin’s Pies to find out why they can’t stay away from the Battle (three years in a row now) and what their big news of the year is (spoiler alert: you can now send Tippin’s Pies nationwide).
Here’s what Tippin’s Pies had to say.
What’s your big story this year?
This year we started ecommerce. Most people in Kansas City won't need to use it (since you can find our pies in many grocery retailers around the area); unless they are sending our pies to someone they know outside of the metro. But this will help everyone with a Tippin's craving to get their fix.
What challenges are you facing?
We are constantly growing to new markets, but we are finding it hard to get our brand out in front of that market. People love our pies, but don't see why they should brand our pies as Tippin's. We need to gain more brand awareness so we can expand and spread the #PieLove to more locations.
Why do you Battle?
Tippin's battles because we love getting involved in our hometown community. We also think our brand resonates with people who have lived in Kansas City their whole lives. People remember the restaurants; we want to reach out to these people and let them know that our famous pies are still available.
Have you met new collaborators or customers?
We have. We're always looking to connect with new people and the Battle has been a fun way to do that, while also reinforcing the relationships we already have in the community. Even if we don't collaborate on a project with our fellow battlers, it's great to support their business also.
Have you seen an increase in your web traffic, foot traffic, sales or social media reach?
During the Battle, we tend to see an increase in online traffic, whether it be our website or social media. It’s fun to get our customers involved.
How has your approach to social media changed since you first started playing in our Battle?
At first, we just focused on Facebook and word-of-mouth, but last year we talked about the Battle on all of our social media fronts. We also tagged local companies for fun engagement and to help gain exposure.
How can KCSourceLink help you—in the Battle and beyond?
KCSourceLink has created great exposure and helped us connect with other local businesses. We enjoy spreading the word about the Battle. We're also constantly inspired by other businesses who participate. Their creativity, drive and positive spirit reflects well on the community KCSourceLink is building.
What tips would you give to new contenders?
Be creative. The more innovative you can be, the more people will catch on. Even if it doesn't have to do with your company's product, people will fall in love with your company as a whole.
