Crowdfunding Live: A Creative Collaboration

Meet Laura Parker, a summer design intern with KCSourceLink. Parker is a senior at Kansas State University studying graphic design with a journalism and mass communications minor. She loves the opportunity to design for KCSourceLink and learn about the entrepreneurs of Kansas City. She is very excited to be spending her summer here.

Seven big ideas displayed themselves around the room at the first Crowdfunding Live: KC Innovation Showcase hosted by Hallmark on June 3.

Attendees perused the space to discover the entrepreneurs behind those big ideas. With funding campaigns under way, these inventive minds offered face-to-face interactions and hoped for visitors’ support of their prospects.

I loved hearing the passion behind each of these projects. Here are a handful of the big minds I chatted with:

Monica Rojas of Amatoria Clothing and Sarah Hicks of have collaborated to create Covey in an effort to change the fashion industry. Covey is an online boutique that represents the two women’s brand: design, craftsmanship, sustainability. They promote the Slow Fashion Movement, which aims for eco-friendly production of garments.

Faire Joli

“A place to create and collaborate” is how Chrystal Simmons and Season Scott describe Faire Joli. The pair has a location for the business in Grandview for businesspeople, entrepreneurs and the like to utilize their creative space for mobile office suites, creative classes, entrepreneurial forums and small business meetings.

Tin Man Prints

Bryan Azorsky presented a gorgeous display of aluminum prints at Crowdfunding Live. Tin Man Prints creates vibrant images by infusing dyes into aluminum sheets. Azorsky has also developed a magnetic mounting system that allows easy changeout of photographs on walls without the hassle of nails or deep holes. Tin Man Prints is revolutionizing the beauty and ease of displaying photographs.

Crane Brewing Company

Chris Meyers shared that he and his team have a location squared away in Raytown for Crane Brewing Company. Crane Brewing focuses on three styles: Saison, Berliner Weiss and Lambic. The team believes these styles will be foundational as they experiment with other brews. Aiming for traditionally prepared beers, Crane Brewing strives to provide the highest quality and best taste.

Kansas City is full of big ideas. Check out these new businesses and see more on the other Crowdfunding Live exhibitors at 1 Week KC: Crowdfunding Live!
