Ugly Never Looked So Good
Ugly Glass & Co.
Jenny and Skip Alexander | Kansas City, MO | Microenterprise
Twelve years ago, Jenny and Skip were crafting nomads, touring the arts and crafts circuit to sell their handmade jewelry. Today, they’ve grown roots in the Historic West Bottoms of Kansas City, Missouri. Their 5,000 square foot shop showcases eclectic handmade items from more than 70 makers.
It’s was a big move to make the shift to brick and mortar, and it’s one they’ve made twice before. Jenny, Skip and their Ugly Glass moved from their original store front location to increase traffic. Their third location puts them in Le Fou Flea family and together they draw big crowds. Skip’s wisdom earned the hard way: “Save three times as much as you though you would need to own your own storefront.”
The name “Ugly Glass” is its own draw. Skip donned the moniker for his line of unique, hand-torched glass pendants and marbles and metal jewelry—and it stuck. He continues to work on his line in his studio inside the store.
