Nuggets of Goodness

Carla Poirier | Liberty, MO | Microenterprise

Inspired by her grandmother, Carla started collecting vintage jewelry when she was just a young lass in high school. In 2010, overwhelmed by the amount of vintage jewelry in her collection that never got worn, she decided to break it down and recycle it into a bona fide business. She started creating original one-of-a-kind handmade jewels and accessories from vintage baubles and beads. And Nuggets of Goodness was born.

Below, Carla answers the KCSourceLink Shop Quiz. Get to know her and score some vintage deals.

Kansas City’s best move: recognizing the importance of and fostering the creative community in KC!

Kansas City’s best kept secret: it’s a secret…

Your triumph: Overcoming my fear of the unknown. It kept me from starting my business years earlier.

Your wisdom earned the hard way: It’s OK to ask for help. You think you can handle everything, but in the end, it’s just overwhelming and you don’t get anything done. Delegate!

Your comfort: my family

Your mentor: My parents. I grew up in my family’s metal-finishing business, and worked my way through school. That experience shaped who I am, and I’m glad for it.

Where you find your tribe: I’m a member of Handmade in Kansas City. They’re an awesome group of handmade sellers in located throughout the metro area. We’re all at various stages in our businesses, so it’s great to bounce ideas off one another and learn from other’s experiences.

Your next move: world domination J

Your exit music: Cults – You Know What I Mean

What flavor do you add to KC? A little quirky, a little nostalgic, with an extra helping of sparkle
