The Wisdom of Morgan Miller Plumbing
In the spirit of Groundhog Day (and the 1993 Bill Murray movie it inspired), we asked Jeff Morgan at Morgan Miller Plumbing to share a few thoughts on what he'd do differently if he had the chance to start his business all over again.
Here's what he would change, what he nailed and what he continues to struggle with.
What do you wish you had done differently?
Ask for help. You are so prideful when first starting a business, that asking for help may look like defeat, but it is far from that! If you want more nuggets on that go to my Linkedin Posts as one of them is titled: Help...
What do you do right?
Polishing our brand. Cleanest fleet on the street, inside and out. This move was very intentional, strategy was behind it. That definitely got us noticed. Accident/ Luck: Appealing to our customers by simply being who we are. No pretensions, falseness. Plenty of transparency and backing up our words with our actions. No one is perfect. Once some of these traits about us were identified, they became strategy instead of luck. Social media was another thing we did right. We had no clue that puppies and unicorns would get us noticed as plumbers, so I guess you could say luck. But it works, and done right, it works VERY well for your business.
What's your struggle?
Finding the right customer mix and knowing when it is okay to say no to jobs/customers. Along with finding talent (associates) that is a good match for us. Making enough profits to become a superpower.
