Meet the First Class of ScaleUP! Kansas City
Watch out, Kansas City. These 15 companies are gearing up for some serious growth. On Jan. 27, ScaleUP! Kansas City announced its inaugural cohort of ScaleUP! Kansas City innovators.

Nick Abernathy, Info-Data Services: Turning paper into Dynamic Digital Resources and data into a competitive advantage, Info-Data helps increase productivity and allows managers to apply data toward revenue-generating activities.
Doug Bliss, Web Connect: Web Connect helps companies do more with their current ERP systems by empowering and mobilizing the sales force, engaging customers and reducing back-office workload.
Keith Ebel, Proximity Wireless: Proximity Wireless provides turn-key, vendor-neutral wireless solutions for enterprise level environments of all types and sizes, above ground or below, indoors or out.
Colleen Gerke, Jowler Creek Vineyard & Winery: Missouri’s first green vineyard and winery, Jowler Creek uses green technologies to make its award-winning wine, control weeds and reduce insects in a its seven-acre sustainable vineyard.

Cesar Marquez, Marleon International: Marleon International is a third-party logistics management and consulting firm specializing in supply chain management services. Marleon has extensive knowledge of trans-border freight, bilingual and multicultural projects and bilateral NAFTA countries' operational laws.
Dan Moses, FTP Worldwide: FTP Worldwide is a cloud-based hosting service that provides secure file transfer and file sharing services, including customized solutions.
Raymond Okuagu, Premier Engineering Consultants: Premier Engineering is a full-service engineering consulting firm that delivers highly specialized, innovative, quality and cost-sensitive solutions for today’s infrastructures. Premier Engineering has been involved in the structural design of multimillion dollar facilities such as Arrowhead Stadium.
David Rinehart, ClaimJockey: ClaimJockey works to take the claim-filing burden off families, acting as the bridge between the policyholder and the long-term care insurance company.
Stephanie Sage, Sage Restoration: Experts in specialty clean-up, Sage Restoration provides emergency and nonemergency services to residential and commercial property owners needing specialty clean-up from water and fire disasters as well as sanitation from mold, hoarder debris and communicable diseases.

Raul Villegas, El Padrino Soccer: El Padrino Soccer is a soccer apparel store that provides the gear every player needs. True soccer fans can even find their favorite jerseys from professional soccer teams. The staff also manage 180 teams who play for the El Padrino Soccer League at a new indoor facility called Soccer Nation.
Kelly Wilson, Weave Gotcha Covered!: Weave Gotcha Covered! is a full-service, custom, soft-furnishings fabrication studio. The company fabricates custom draperies, top treatments, bedding, cornices, upholstery, cushions and accessories to consumers, design professionals and wholesale /contract clients.
The University of Missouri-Kansas City Innovation Center (UMKC IC) was awarded one of only eight ScaleUP! America program contracts nationwide by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The program provides direct support for growth-oriented entrepreneurs and firms while strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem. The result is expected to be measurable economic impact and job growth in local communities.
To be selected for ScaleUP! Kansas City, applicants had to meet the following criteria:
- Lead a company that has been in business for at least 2 years
- Generate annual sales between $150K and $750K
- Have a strong market than can generate more than $1 million in sales
ScaleUP! fills a gap in the Kansas City entrepreneurial ecosystem to support businesses that have significant revenues but require support and expertise to rise to the next level. The UMKC IC is poised to boost these businesses to the higher sales and revenue that will yield job creation.
