10 Ways to Celebrate Entrepreneurship in KC This Month
November is National Entrepreneurship Month, and there are gobs of events (a bonafide bevy) that honor entrepreneurs and innovators, right here in Kansas City. Global Entrepreneurship Week hosts quite a few, and that runs November 17-23. But the celebration of entrepreneurship can’t be contained in just a week.
Here are 10 more opportunities to inspire and aspire this month.
1. Aspire with ScaleUP! Kansas City.
Get ready to scale your business. Applications for ScaleUP! Kansas City, an SBA program administered by the UMKC Innovation Center, open Nov. 10.
2. Rally with Get in the Ring and GEW Kickoff.
Bring out the megaphone with two opportunities to kick off Global Entrepreneurship. Attend Get in the Ring and see Kansas City’s own FitBark compete to advance in the global pitch competition on Nov. 7—or join us on Nov. 17 for a metrowide gathering and kickoff the official start of Global Entrepreneurship Week .
3. Participate with eKC Explained.
Curious about the entrepreneurial buzz in Kansas City? Join an engaging panel discussion and interactive Q&A on Nov. 19 at eKC Explained with Mayor Sly James, Danny O’Neil (Roasterie), Michele Markey (FastTrac), Maria Meyers (KCSourceLink), Teri Rogers (hint.is), Carlos Antequera (Netchemia) and Toby Rush (EyeVerify).
4. Empower with Women’s Entrepreneurship Day.
Female entrepreneurship takes center-stage on Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) on Nov. 19, 2014. Kauffman FastTrac is taking the lead on an event designed for women who are starting or growing businesses.
5. Discover ideas and startups with Think Big Showcase, Reverse
Pitch, 1 Million Cups and Early Stage Innovator Expo.
Discover Kansas City’s next big startups on Nov. 18 with Think Big Showcase or at 1 Million Cups on Nov. 19. Or maybe you’re ready to take the driver’s seat: discover a new idea when corporations turn the tables and pitch their ideas to entrepreneurs with KCnext’s Reverse Pitch on Nov. 20. And then stick around when entrepreneurs showcase their innovations to the KC community at the Early Stage Innovation Expo.
6. Support: Small Business Saturday and KC Metro Area Cash
It’s a long, tough road from startup to sustainable business. Show local KC businesses that you have the moxy to stick around and support them through the journey when you choose local, independent shops over the big box on Sat., Nov. 29. Find those local businesses on (or add your own to) our Shop Local Map. (And be sure to follow the Kansas City Area Cash Mob for more opportunities to mob local businesses with your love—and cash.)
7. Kickstart a startup with Betablox (DL Nov. 8), Startup Weekend,
SparkLabKC, InvestMidwest and Sprint Accelerator.
Time to kick the tires and see what your idea is worth? Jump head first into Startup Weekend on Nov. 15, or get your applications in to one of KC’s many accelerators or funding forums. Not quite ready to share your idea with the world? We have tips, events and reosurces ready to get you ready over on KCSourceLink’s startup portal.
8. Share your story.
We have a whole section on our website dedicated to entrepreneurs in action. Read about the disrupters, wavemakers and innovators (like Leap.it, Fusion Fitness, 8183 Studio and more) over at Entrepreneurs in Action--or leave your breadcrumbs of inspiration and share your story at www.wecreatekc.com.
