Build Your Custom GEWKC 2019 Agenda from 200+ Free Events for Small Businesses, Entrepreneurs
Did you know that thousands of aspiring and established entrepreneurs and small business owners are gearing up to participate in Kansas City’s 12th annual Global Entrepreneurship Week? What’s that, you might ask? GEW is an international celebration of the makers, innovators and job creators who launch startups and bring ideas to life.
And here in KC, we do it big. This year, Global Entrepreneurship Week – Kansas City features over 200+ free events that you can use to build your custom agenda. Follow the five tracks (startups, scalers, social enterprise, tech and makers and creators) or build your own custom agenda.
“GEWKC is the largest celebration of entrepreneurship in the region—and a great opportunity to join a worldwide movement that shines the spotlight on the importance of entrepreneurship to our economy and to our hopes for the future,” says Jenny Miller, chief organizer of Global Entrepreneurship Week – Kansas City and senior director of ecosystem development at the UMKC Innovation Center.

Entrepreneurship matters
To put that impact into context, Miller adds, Missouri startups create nearly 80% of all new jobs in the state, according to the ”Show Me Jobs” report recently released by MOSourceLink, a program of the UMKC Innovation Center.
“In every corner of Missouri and the KC region, entrepreneurs are proving that they are a critical part of our economic vitality,” Miller says.
GEW has a huge impact, near and far
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation founded GEW in 2008 and has since expanded it to more than 170 countries.
GEWKC’s mission is to connect entrepreneurs, of all types and at any stage, with the inspiration, education and community that will help them take the next step on their entrepreneurial journey.
This year, GEWKC begins Nov. 18 and is headquartered in the historic 18th and Vine District in Kansas City, Missouri. You can build your own custom schedule from more than 200 events that follow five tracks: makers and creators, startups, scalers, social enterprise and tech. All events are free.
“It’s really about building community that can help you build a better, stronger business,” Miller says. “Human capital—those relationships you cultivate and keep with fellow business owners, mentors, customers and investors—is the largest investment and most important decision you can make for your business. You can never know too many people.”
All GEWKC events were crowdsourced from local organizations and businesses and then curated by the volunteer GEWKC organizing committee. Events provide opportunities to brainstorm and vet new ideas, discover business-building resources and build a community of like-minded business owners and entrepreneurs.
