These KC Women Entrepreneurs Are Getting Worldwide Recognition

Every year, Enterprising Women magazine publishes its list of the winners of the 2019 Enterprising Women of the Year, which is an annual tribute to the top women entrepreneurs in the world. And this year, you might notice four local names made the list.

New Horizons is a WBE-certified environmental management, contracting and demolition services provider and a winner in the $5 million to $10 million in annual sales category.

Janelle Burlin

Janelle Burlin, co-founder and principal, KJB Packaging Solutions, (Kansas City, Missouri)

KJB  Packaging Solutions provides custom packaging and design, contract packaging, general packaging and packaging equipment and is a winner in the $1 million to $2 million in annual sales category.

Sheryl Vickers

Sheryl Vickers, owner, Select Sites LLC, (Kansas City, Missouri)

Select Sites is a commercial real estate firm specializing in shopping center leasing, retail tenant representation, commercial and investment acquisitions, and retail consulting. It won for the up to $1 million in annual sales category.

Jeri Kling

Jeri Kling, founder and CEO, Bartunek Group, (Overland Park, Kansas)

Bartunek Groups is a a WBE-certified nationwide staffing, recruiting and consulting agency and a winner in the up to $1 million in annual sales category.

To be considered, these entrepreneurs had to be highly skilled leaders of a growth-oriented business, support women’s entrepreneurship and be involved in business and charitable organizations.

From there, winners are slotted into seven categories based on annual sales, which reaches up to $100 million.

Congrats to these KC entrepreneurs, who are disrupting industries and breaking glass ceilings. But these aren’t the only women rocking entrepreneurship in the Kansas City metro. Plenty of others are taking their products to a worldwide audience, changing the face of an industry, providing a a vital service to an underserved group, ditching the corporate grind to pursue their dreams and more.
