Offices and warehouse in Blue Springs, MO

816-220-0450 or 816-392-6020 (cell)

Established June 2002

J&A Traffic Products is a distributor of traffic products, including highway and street signs, cones and construction signs.  Customers include local and state transportation departments, private construction and traffic companies.

Amanda Mindham is owner of the company as well as president and CEO.  Her husband, Jeff Mindham, is vice president of sales and marketing.

When Mindham initially called KCSourceLink in July, 2003 she indicated that she felt she “could now quit her full-time job because the business was doing well.”  However, she wanted assistance in better running her growing business and was also interested in mentoring.

KCSourceLink gave her referral information for five different resource organizations that could meet her needs.  In June, 2004 Mindham reported that, since working with some of the recommended resources, she had:

  • Expanded her business
  • Made significant changes in the nature of her business

Mindham feels strongly that KCSourceLink’s referrals contributed to those outcomes.  She rates her KCSourceLink experience highly, saying that KCSourceLink was “very helpful in locating exactly what I was looking for.”

She participated in the Kauffman Foundation’s FastTrac Business Planning course, where she learned that “some things about her business needed to change and things she needed to take into account that she had not been considering.”  She also “learned how valuable the process is of writing and updating her business plan on a yearly basis”.

At the Kansas Women’s Business Center, Mindham participated in a financial mentoring program which helped her to realize that she needed to make some changes in the financial structure of her business.  She also continues to participate on a Peer to Peer Roundtable discussion group organized by the Kansas Women’s Business Center.

J&A Traffic Products continues to grow and prosper.  Mindham recently reported that her organization has grown to seven employees in 2007.  This is up from four employees in 2005.  She moved from her 7500 sq.ft. warehouse to new 20,000 sq.ft. warehouse in July 2006.  The company’s sales are up, expected to reach $5 million this year.
